Nordstrom invited me to preview their Anniversary Sale over happy hour and to blog about my experience.
Often a bummer, with July rolls in humidity, bug bites and the reminder to renew my cat’s vaccinations… Dullsville, I know. Like during any other slump, something always pops out of the woodwork to brighten things up. In this case, the scorching summer has been interrupted with time indoors– specifically at the mall.
I was recently invited to the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale Preview VIP Blogger Happy Hour at Nordstrom St. Louis Galleria. In participation with ALIVE Magazine, we spent the evening sipping cocktails, munching on gourmet pizza and pre-shopping the soon-to-start sale of the summer.
Each July, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale marks down upcoming items– as in, items for next season, not items from last season that are leftover. While I personally enjoy digging through out-of-season attire to find the single size six left, I hate holding on to items, unable to wear them until nearly a year later. This sale will be available and rocking your local Nordstrom between July 19, 2013 and August 4, 2013— even longer if you’re a cardholder, as Nordstrom cardholders can exclusively shop now through July 18th. But remember– regular prices start on August 5th.
Nordstrom St. Louis Galleria is relatively new– my dear friend, Sara, and I waited patiently for it to open, thrilled at the thought of MBMJ at the closest shopping center. Tucked in tents around the store, we bloggers wandered the Nordstrom’s biggest sale of the year at this recent event, midst the discount-adoring cardholders.
Unlike most Black Friday shopping experiences I’ve had, the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale actually houses incredible discounts (and on items you actually want to buy.) Here are a few of my favorite pieces; what stands out to you?
Denim and tweed and leather, oh my! Check out that 1970s-inspired camel leather skirt with practical, yet aesthetically beneficial, zip pockets. That Halogen skirt would look perfect with a variety of autumn outfits, and it is on sale from $228 to $149.90. Don’t let the sale price confuse you, as it is real leather. And it has pockets.
Big sunglasses and bigger necklaces– that’s one way to make an awe-worthy statement! And y’know what goes perfectly with the above camel leather? This! Jewel toned accessories, like this Kendra Scott bib necklace, bring in a great dose of color. While it’s offered in four colors, this now-$64.90 necklace looks best in the season’s hottest hue: purple.
Aren’t those shoes lovely? Le sigh. Up the outfit ante by pairing that leather skirt and jeweled-toned bib necklace with another bold color. These Vince Camuto shoes show wedges can be perfect for autumn and winter, and the teal green suede– now on sale for $79.90– would pop against nearly every neutral on the planet.
Personally, I’m a purse girl. While I love all facets of shopping (ahem, for the most part, we all know bra and jean shopping can be comically torturous) purses are my favorite. They always fit, they’re used daily, and they’re all just… so pretty. Reinforce the season by bringing a little more leather to our skirt+bib necklace+wedge look; I’m imagining that combo paired with this orange Dooney & Bourke tote and a cream sweater. This multi-use handbag stays sharp and classy with its clean lines and thick material, despite the fact that it could hold almost anything. At $285.90 (down from $428!), it is the perfect tote.
