There’s trying new styles, and then there’s this…

There’s a list of fashion things I just don’t wear. Ever. Eveeeerrrr. While the list is quite extensive, a few have been incredibly popular as of late…

  • Jumpsuits
  • Culottes
  • Capri-length anything
  • Mules
  • Super tall heels

Until recently, leggings were on that list. That was wrong. I was wrong. It was a mistake. They’re too comfortable to rule out, and tunics make them 100% alright in my book. In fact, leggings were such a success I decided I was looking at my rules all wrong. I’m in the unique position where I can try out new items easily and frequently (yay, media!) and saying no to apparel just because it was outside of my comfort zone is an easy way to never grow. Any baby, with a shopaholic personalty like mine, I cannot comfortably hinder the growth of my beloved wardrobe. It would be cruel to the clothes.

This is the mindset I kept in mind when I was asked to try a jumpsuit.

When LA-based web boutique Tobi reached out about having me try a few items, I was asked to pick out a jumpsuit I liked. The idea seemed like an oxymoron. Jumpsuits are at the top of my do-not-wear list. Around the same time, I was gifted a pair of super-tall 70s-style mules. Enter an OMG, what do I do with this shit now? reaction.

Wear them both at once and rock the hell out of it, duh.

I did it. I wore a jumpsuit and survived. I did not break my ankle in the shoes. Do I like how this looked? Yes. Am I totally onboard with jumpsuits now and ready to switch out my flats? No — but I’m making progress. I can see why culotte jumpsuits are perfect for warm weather, and this Tobi jumpsuit is definitely made out of a summertime fabric; it’s light and breezy… also wrinkle-prone, but about what you’d expect for the affordable price. The one-and-you’re-done benefit of wearing a jumpsuit appeals to my lazy side, and the leg-lengthening nature of these skyhigh mules is pretty rad. Plus, these autumn colors? Sold.

Perhaps it’s time to admit my do not wear list was all wrong.

Perhaps it’s time to say change isn’t so bad.
