Acne and I go way back. At some point, early in college, my chin broke out and it never cleared up. I’m not sure why it stays around – I’m constantly telling it off – but if I’ve learned anything in the last few years, it is that while I can’t currently erase my adult acne, I can do my best to contain it.
Does that sound defeated? It’s not. There are worse possible things, and after having sincerely zit-ier skin in the past, I am happy with where my skin is now. With this current system, my zits are as under control as they’ve ever been and my skin texture allows for smooth makeup application.
So, what do I use?
Proactiv Refining Mask | 1x week, as needed
First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Purifying Mask | 1x week
up & up Oil-Free Acne Wash | 2x day
Ole Henriksen Truth Serum Collagen Booster (c/o) | 2x week
Clearasil Hydra-Blast Oil-Free Pads | 3x week (focused on chest and shoulders)
Proactiv+ Green Tea Moisturizer | 2x daily
Garnier SkinActive Micellar Cleansing Water | 1x day
Clean & Clear Advantage Acne Spot Treatment | 1x day, as needed
Simple Revitalizing Eye Roll-On | 1x day
Orange or black charcoal sheet masks | 1-2x week
Clarisonic Deep Pore Mia 2 (c/o) | 2-3x week
The Clarisonic Deep Pore Mia 2 is a new addition. I’ve wanted to try one since the brand launched in 2004; sent to me to review, this was my first time trying a Clarisonic and I love it. This face brush is gentle enough for many people to use twice a day, but as an adult acne sufferer I limit my use to three times per week. While I haven’t seen a change in my larger zits, the smaller blackhead clusters have decreased sincerely since I began using the device, which means all of my makeup applies smoother and easier. In fact, I can use about half as much foundation every morning compared to what I was using before starting my Clarisonic regime.
This sonic cleansing device cleanses my skin in a spa-like way that feels so much cleaner than my normal hands-and-cleanser routine. It even has a feature that reminds you when to change the area you’re cleaning during the 60-second cycle – as in, for 20 seconds you should clean your chin, and then there’s a little pause reminding you to move on to your forehead. So convenient! I could see this being a great gift this season, and if you decide to gift one (to someone else or yourself) know the Clarisonic Deep Pore Mia 2 set comes with the Mia 2 device, traveling case, Deep Pore Daily Cleanser, Deep Pore Detoxifying Clay Mask and a Deep Pore Brush Head.
