Birchbox No. 3: Lashem, Harvey Prince, theBalm, Ojon & Embryolisse

Have I mentioned how much I love my monthly Birchbox? Lance even mentioned, as I giddily opened my January shipment, “This is worth whatever it costs for how happy it makes you.” Now if that isn’t a real note of approval, I don’t know what is.

Lashem Measurable Diference Lash Gel Serum: To be honest, after hearing about weird results of lash serums (hello, who wants to trim their eyelashes? Horrifying) I’d written them off entirely. After this sample came I knew I had to try it, if for nothing else than to review it. I’m happy to say my lashes look fuller at the lash line– a real benefit– with none of the creepy too-long-of-lashes problem. While I don’t think I’ll buy it for the normal near-$70 price, I’m open to lash serums now. Thanks, Birchbox, for making me step out of the box. Bad joke, I know, but true.

Harvey Prince Skinny Chic Perfume: This fragrance promised to help relieve cravings, and I finally figured out how– it makes you feel so sick you don’t want to eat. While I hate to be mean, this perfume was awful and gave me a day-long headache. Screw that, skinny chic, I’ll keep my Dove Go Fresh and eat all the damn chocolate I want.

theBalm Hot Mama Shadow and Blush All-In-One: I always use a hot pink blush, and anymore I’m not sure why. After receiving this amply sized apricot sample (seriously, this will last me 6 mons.) I see the tone brightening benefits of this easy to apply blush. The color glides on smoothly, stays all day and brightens evenly. Love, love, love this product.

Ojon Rare Blend Oil Total Hair Therapy: Even in its sample bottle, the three layers of this hair oil stay separate, colorful and enticing. With a scent somewhere between baking and hippies (nutmeg? nature? I can’t pinpoint it) I find it great for occasional use in small doses… which is, I believe, exactly how you’re supposed to use it. The end result was exactly as advertised: silky hair, less frizz, enhanced texture.

Embryolisse’Lait-Crème Concentre: Advertised as a general fix-all, this cream looks and feels like sunscreen. I first tried it as a general moisturizer but was bummed with the results; after all, I love my Proactiv Green Tea Moisturizer. Next time I tried using it as a primer, as noted in the included directions, and– BAM!– I found out why this is supposedly a cult fav. Over my normal skin care routine but under my painfully drying t-zone primer and foundation, this stuff made my make-up stick even in the weirdly humid January weather we’re having here in STL without leaving my skin looking cakey or dull. I’ll miss this little guy when my sample runs out.

Thank you for another fun month, Birchbox! I have earned enough points writing reviews to receive a $20 giftcard to the store… Now it’s just time to decide what full sized freebie I want.
