Over Sports? Throw a Superb Owl Party Instead with Tuesday Morning

This blog post is sponsored by Tuesday Morning. All opinions are my own.

Who needs sports when you have… owls? Maybe you don’t like football. Or maybe, like me, you do like football and the two most terrible, horrible, no good, very bad teams made it to this year’s Super Bowl so you’re feeling less than thrilled about the big game. Sure, that might be dramatic, and yes, that is referencing a children’s book, but I have some childish feelings about what’s happening this Sunday! Whatever the reason, if you don’t feel like tuning in for this year’s Super Bowl, I have an alternative for you: the Superb Owl Sunday party.

Bargain-hunter favorite Tuesday Morning recently invited me to check out the store and find the supplies I’d need to host my own Superb Owl Sunday party. After all, that store always has some great owl decor, which makes it the perfect place to shop for this particular event. You might remember we worked together a few years ago on my favorite annual party: Friendsgiving! I’ve actually known of Tuesday Morning’s discounts longer than that, though, as my grandmother was a retail clerk at one of the Denver locations for decades, so not only have I spent a lot of time in the stores but I’ve been getting Tuesday Morning gifts my entire life. Lucky me!

In case you haven’t spent decades shopping Tuesday Morning, let me fill you in on how the store works. Tuesday Morning sells name-brand items in categories like home decor, entertaining, furniture, small appliance, garden, craft, pets, and toys at discounts of 20 to 60 percent. These items aren’t seconds or refurbished pieces, just suddenly affordable products you’d see at your favorite department stores. Most of my kitchen and entertaining items are by Fiesta, Lenox, Kitchenaid, and Pyrex, and guess what—I spotted all of those brands in my local Tuesday Morning stores while I was shopping for this project. Sponsorship or not, I honestly shop here regularly and cannot believe the deals.

But back to the superb owls at hand! When planning my Superb Owl Sunday party, I started in the craft section and worked my way out. I found this DIY cardboard owl centerpiece kit (for $1.99!) and then picked up a few smaller owls, like these wooden and metal ones, to go around it. Next I found a handful of adorable cement owl planters with faux succulents and decided they’d make great table setting accessories—or even favors! Along the way I even spotted an owl spoon rest and owl trivet, which brought the party vibe into the kitchen while matching the color scheme of my existing dishes. A pack of affordable disposable napkins in a complimenting color finished off the table and created a cohesive theme fit for only the most superb owls. (Obviously.)

While I was in the craft section, I also found a deeply discounted letterboard and sets upon sets of Heidi Swapp letterboard letters and words for more than 80% off the current retail price. These viral boards are so perfect for parties, so I knew I needed to snatch one up. I decided to use it to write about the feathery friends of the evening, but it would also be a great place to list the party menu.

Speaking of menu, you obviously can’t forget the food. Super Bowl parties are all about the spread, so your Superb Owl party shouldn’t be any different! I picked up a plethora of packaged snacks, sauces, and seasoning to make easy finger foods for a crowd while at Tuesday Morning. I love serving mini slow cooker sandwiches so I don’t have to spend much time in the kitchen when guests are here, and these Crock-Pot packets would be perfect for that. I also spotted a summer sausage and some seriously tasty garlic and herb crackers, which is such an easy snack to serve while entertaining. You can make your meat and cheese board even more special with a few of these cheese-and-sausage owls around the edges! I added a little mustard for feather details and a piece of carrot for the beak. Superb owl snacks for the win!

Most years, I love to pull out my football pennant banner and eat a few sporty snacks. But since I’m hoping both teams can somehow lose this year (#sorrynotsorry), I’m thrilled to rearrange those letters and celebrate with my very own Superb Owl Sunday party instead—even if my husband will still have the game on one room over.

Thank you for sponsoring this blog post, Tuesday Morning.

This is so cute! Love it all, but especially the owl kit. I’m going to check out our local Tuesday Morning store to find the letter board letters, since I got a letter board for Christmas. Really inspiring post!

Thank you! I actually went back for more of the letter board letters and the selection was fantastic. You can’t ever have enough since they’re so easy to lose. Ha!
