Thinking logically, it would make sense that I put more effort into my appearance now I’m self employed, as I have more available time. I manage my schedule, so I can technically get started with the primping process whenever I need.
Yet somehow the lack of structure has taken my previous, minimal get-ready time and thrown it on its head. I have been running late since 2017.
Since I’m home at a computer screen for hours per day, I get half dressed every morning. It normally involves a thermal or sweatshirt paired with leggings. Putting on something other than PJs makes it less tempting to nap but also easier to run out for coffee or last-minute errands.
But as my career grows, I sporadically have to see more people IRL throughout the day which means my 50% dressed goal should be bumped up to all-real-clothes in a matter of seconds. How? Swap the leggings for jeans, throw a jacket over the thermal, and slip into the easiest shoes with a polished twist: slides.
Am I writing an entire blog post about how much I appreciate the 10 extra seconds I save not having to put on my shoes? You can bet your ass I am. Hello, convenience.
Soft Surroundings sent over a few pieces from its latest collection, and these slides (and the faux fur vest) stood out as must-haves for the season. I love the neutral pattern in the snake-print slides but I adore the comfort and ease of wear. Who knew you could go from cozy to polished in under a minute? Consider this the new scale of simple use I expect from my apparel.
