Summer-to-Fall Staples: Shopping at the End of the Season

This post is brought to you in partnership with adidas.

There’s a lot associated with the end of summer. From the back-to-school season to the changing temperatures, everyone has a reason to be excited come August. For Lance and me, the start of autumn means one thing: vacation! His time off from work tends to come in August or September each year, which means late summer is our annual travel time.

Whether you’re heading back to class, leaving for vacation, or simply preparing for the new season, the start of fall is a huge time of year for shopping. I like to find items that can check all the boxes: comfortable for travel, transitional for seasons and temperatures, and practical enough to work in a variety of settings. High-rise leggings keep you comfortable on the plane and are great during your upcoming autumn workouts. A suede or leather backpack / tote hybrid functions as a fantastic day bag while exploring a new city and can carry your books on the way to class. And – my current favorite – sneakers in a fun fall hue keep you moving comfortably while you travel and will certainly match your autumn apparel.

I have been obsessed with the adidas Campus ADV shoes for a while, and when they came out in “tech copper” (ahem, 70s orange) I knew I had to have them. They’re designed for skateboarding, which maybe explains my early interest – borrowing from boyfriends throughout the years was my earliest introduction into athleisure, and even as someone who constantly gravitates towards boots I can’t deny the allure of a skate shoe. Plus, slowly but surely, Lance has been helping me learn to skate with a bit more… uh… grace. The goal is to get me doing at least one trick before my 30th birthday, which means I have a lot of skating to do this fall.

Pairing sneakers with skirts and dresses is pretty new to my adult style, even though it has been the ‘it trend’ for years. The only reason I started? Traveling. I blistered up my feet too many times exploring new cities, so I am finally – officially! – converted to team sneakers. Picking a pair in a fun leather color made the transition easier, and knowing they’ll look great with my next season’s wardrobe makes the purchase even smarter. Now all that’s left is booking the airfare. I clearly already have my wardrobe figured out!
