Leggings. Culottes. Mules. Jumpsuits. This blog has chronicled a lot of items that have transitioned from things I mock to things I wear to things I adore.
Please help me welcome UGG boots to this list.
There are a few reasons why I never jumped on the UGG boot bandwagon. First of all, I was at my peak level of pretentious cool when they were first popular. Was it on MTV or worn by someone who was on MTV? Then none for me, thx. I never used to feel as cold as I do now when I was younger, so fur-lined boots didn’t seem as necessary. And the mid-calf height of traditional UGG boots isn’t the right height for my stems. I’m short enough as it is.
But things change over time: You stop being ‘too cool’ for popular stuff. You start getting colder. (I guess? Still not really sure how, when, or why this happened.) Boots start getting taller. You begin really, really, really caring about comfort while still being concerned with style. The list goes on. And somewhere between trying the Pumpkin Spice Latte a few years late and getting hooked on Harry Potter — this hasn’t happened yet, I just assume it is the next thing I’ll cave on — I fell for these ultra-tall UGG boots.
