I want to avoid saying “Rebecca Minkoff is my spirit animal” so badly — it’s too frequent a phrase, always overused on the internet. I don’t want that to be how I explain my current obsession. This designer crush is more than the same four words I could use to describe pizza or cats. But damn it, I just can’t think of another way to get this point across.
Rebecca Minkoff, you’re my… new favorite designer.
(There we go! It was on the tip of my tongue.)
The infatuation started a few seasons back when she held a show in St. Louis. I knew I liked her designs, but pattern after pattern kept gracing the runway — errrr, Saks floor, but potato potatooooh — that made me swoon. For months I admired from afar. I let the crush simmer. I kept an eye on the designs (and then on my budget.)
And then I started finding her stuff on sale.
It started strong with the free Rebecca Minkoff dress at Off Fifth, found during a B1G2 free sale. (AKA the stuff dreams are made of.) Up next was a zip-covered crossbody found hidden under a pile in the Nordstrom Rack sale area. And now I introduce you to two of my newest scores: a Rebecca Minkoff MAC crossbody bag and a Rebecca Minkoff striped moto jacket, both sold for more than 50% off.

Let’s start with the MAC crossbody bag. With a retail price of $295, this purse was for sale at Off Fifth at St. Louis Premium Outlets for $139. The price got even lower with the $20 off $100 coupon in the mall’s VIP shopping booklet (the free Savings Passport, which believe me you want.) I love that this bag has a little more room than my other crossbody while still being cute and out of the way. Look, ma, no hands (needed to hold my purse)!
Now the jacket. I loved this jacket when it originally hit department store shelves, but it was too much for my budget. Enter thredUP! This new-with-tags item was on clearance at thredUP, the second-hand shopping site, for a fraction of the price. It was originally $528… and it was listed for $65.99. You can guess what I’ll be wearing all autumn.
In conclusion: I love sales. I love Rebecca Minkoff. I love this outfit. I love that fashion and budget patience paid off. I love that I actually have money leftover I could store in this purse.
