Big shock: My hair isn’t actually red. (I know you must be sooooo surprised, what with its ever-changing shade of copper. Har har.) For nearly a decade I dyed my hair in my bathroom sink every six weeks like clockwork. I let the pros take over after we started planning the wedding — sure, my at-home results were good almost every time, but there was the occasional near-disaster. I’m happier having the experts manage my tresses, but there’s one new issue with going to the salon: I have to make (and keep) an appointment.
A sudden work obligation just made me reschedule my next salon visit, so I’m rocking some seriously grown-out roots right now. On days like this, I depend on two tricks: a thick headband/scarf and a crooked part.

This outfit served me well for brunch on Sunday in Maplewood, Missouri. The charming St. Louis suburb features a plethora of small bars and eateries, including The Crow’s Nest and its Heavy Metal Brunch. Now I just have to find four more outfits that go with this headband before I get a fresh coat of color. Or perhaps I just keep wearing this? There are less comfortable dresses to don for a week.
