My mom is the shit. Would it be weird if I sent her a Mother’s Day card that just said that?
My mother has a fantastic eye for design and great tastes. We agree on almost all aspects of fashion and style… and when we disagree, we sing “You’re wrongggg, wwww-rrr-ooooo-nnn-gggg!” to each other and probably drive away could-be friends who think we’re perpetually drunk.
It’s a mad rad relationship. Couldn’t ask for a better momma bear. And since she’s so cool I have decided to dress like her in an attempt to steal some of her chill ’70s vibe.
Twinning, no? After seeing the idea in an Anthropologie Instagram, I felt inspired to recreate one of my favorite Susan Traver looks. Please note the matching bracelet. This hand-me-down was a great starting point to recreate the look!
(Note: I don’t know who the blonde guy is, but I’d wear that exact outfit today, too. Great shirt, my man.)
I changed Mom’s outfit in just a few ways. My items are a bit looser, to start with; however, I’m guessing she’s about 17 in this picture, and if I were still 17 I’d rock the hell out of some tight short-shorts and a tied-up top. (And it’s not that I think I’m too old or something — my ass is rad as can be. But sometime at about 19 I had the sudden realization in public that my ass was hanging out of my microscopic skirt and I thought I was dying of panic, so my hemlines have changed a bit.)
Next up? Color. No one really knows why I’m this pale compared to the rest of the family. That much yellow on me might be a little sickly. I went for cooler colors.
And finally, I added a few more accessories. With these easy going tops and vertical lines created by the open flannel, a long, skinny necklace really helped tie it all together.
Currently wearing… Flannel, AEO | Shirt, Rack + Clutch | Necklace, Rack + Clutch [SIMILAR] | Shorts, c/o hazel2blue [SEEN HERE] | Earrings, Kendra Scott [HERE] Bracelet, vintage | Shoes, Naturalizer
Thanks for the inspiration, Mom! ♥
