‘Twas a smidge before Christmas and all through the house,
Yogurt was stalking his new catnip mouse.
The stockings were stuck under the TV with hooks,
And our duckling nativity scene was drawing all kinds of bad looks.
The puppies were stoked about the brand new decor
As Yogurt continued to stalk near the door.
With me in my new blouse and Lance snapping outfit pics,
Holiday spirit and work were suddenly mixed.
When there in the corner arose a loud crash
As an excited pup caused an ornament to smash.
Away from the glass I drug all our four-legged pests.
As Lance grabbed the dust pan. “Oh, such a mess!”
“What a huge bummer! I put all this up,
And now something’s broken. Ugh, today sucks.”
“But it doesn’t matter,” my boyfriend told me.
“That teeny glass ball isn’t Christmas, you’ll see.”
And he was correct about my festive beauties,
For nothing is as dear as him and my adopted cuties.
So after the cleaning, we turned off the lights,
Poured ourselves some cocoa and had a great night.
On Santa Clause, on Elf, on dearest Charlie Brown!
On Netflix, on DVDs, now turn up the sound!
Then It’s A Wonderful Life came next on the list.
We grabbed our homemade cookies and I stole a kiss.
As we sat on the couch, humans, dogs and cat,
I took a good look at the place I was at…
I’m in love, I’m employed, I’m well-fed and I’m young.
I’m healthy, I’m loved back… My lists only begun.
My mind drew away from the movie on T.V.
As I thought about luck. “Oh, fortunate me.”
So to Charlie and Buddy, George and the rest:
I solved the riddle, I passed the holiday test.
It’s not about decor or gifts, but those things are dear.
It’s about the loved ones that you get to hold near.
This season I have the best things of all:
The most fun in the world and a man to share in it all.
With my new lovey-dovey smile I’m a damn sappy sight,
Now Merry Christmas to all and to all a rad night.
Happy holidays, guys and dolls. Now pick up your Very Merry Mint Mocha or Spritz cookie (or whatever your having at your house, although I’m sure it isn’t tastier than that) and cheers to the season. Best wishes!
How adorable! That last photo of you and the pups is great. You look incredibly happy! 🙂

Ha! Thanks. They sort of demanded to be in the photo… It was pretty darn cute.
Julia, this is amazing! I read it when you first posted it, got sidetracked, but still wanted to tell you – that’s some serious skills, girl! Now, the question is – are you going to do it every year? 😉

Thank you! And, uhmmm, I really do like rhyming, so maybe it’s a good idea… Unfortunately, I narrated all my actions in my head to this tune for days after. Ha!
