My calendar says it’s autumn. My brain says it’s autumn. My heart says it’s autumn. Every restaurant and store to ever carry anything pumpkin-flavored says it’s autumn. And the stupid thermometer says it’s summer.
For the three terrible months of summer—I’m barely joking, summer is the worst—I keep myself afloat on the promise of layers and dusty colors and crisp air and boots. “Fall is just around the corner!” Bullshit. It’s finally actually autumn, and it’s in the 80s. It’s hot outside. It’s hot in my car. It’s hot at work. And it feels way hotter because it was momentarily cooler a few weeks ago.
In an attempt to survive my own weather-induced pity party (hand me a thimble-sized pumpkin chai to go with the world’s smallest violin, please) I’m incorporating a few fall favorites into my summer-to-fall transitional wardrobe. These two new staples are from Pitaya in the Delmar Loop. The mustard top screams September, and the light-weight fabric makes it heatwave-appropriate. I added the hat for a bit more fall flavor without bulking on too many layers. (Also, I saw it on the shelf and simply couldn’t say no. Bonus: They sell for only $32, and there were multiple colors available!)

Just scrolling through the photos has made me want to put the hat back on. Is it weird if I wear a hat around my house while editing a post? I may or may not be in pajamas…
What September staples are helping you through the heat?
PS: I’ve mentioned before how much I love Pitaya (like here and here and here and here), so I was thrilled to find out the store recently won an award! Pitaya has been named the 2014 Best Clothing Store for Women by the Riverfront Times. Congratulations!
