Mixing Prints | Pattern Clashing in the CWE

April showers brought May flowers, and I wore them on a skirt paired with stripes! Hooray!

Print mixing– or the more extreme sounding, pattern clashing– is one of those few trends I was thrilled to see as a mainstream acceptance, primarily because it meant more prints on more items available at more stores. Like so many ladies, stripes + floral are my personal favorite combination, and these two discount items– last summer’s Forever 21 skirt and this great new JCPenney top!– work perfect together during these spring afternoons.

Today was spent wandering the popular Central West End St. Louis neighborhood. Lance and I met great company for lunch at Dressel’s Public House for late brunch and conversation. The CWE screams old money in some of the most visually pleasing ways: ivy, brickwork, mature trees… The streets are lined with equal parts quaint cafes/antique shops and trendy lounges/boutiques. With the nice breeze and shade-giving trees even this humid, near-90° Sunday was delightful.

I’d been dying to wear that skirt and top after accidentally seeing them together in my closet, and now I see they;re a match made in closet heaven. If the colors go together (notice how I didn’t write “if the colors match one another…” because that’s not what you’re looking for) and one larger, more colorful print maintains the focus, I don’t see any patterns that can’t work together. Zebra and polka dots? Plaid and leopard? Chevron and checkered? Go craaaaazy— or lazy, because at this point you can practically grab items blindly and find a way to make it work. Isn’t it relieving knowing it all can match somehow?
